Set in 16 acres of garden perched in the foothills of the Peak District this garden represents 600 years of ownership by the Legh family restored to its mid-Victorian splendour. The skeleton of the formal 17th century garden survives in terracing to the east, at the top of which lie herbaceous borders replanted to a scheme by Graham Thomas. The garden is noted for its formal bedding in the sunken Dutch garden. The bedding often features Penstemon 'Rubicunda' bred at Lyme early in the 20th century. Lady Newton's Edwardian rose garden was replanted in 1990. The early 19th century orangery was designed by Lewis Wyatt and contains two camellias of unknown provenance planted in 1820.
Magnificent views of the Pennine Hills and Cheshire Plains.
