Also known as the Hills of the Witch, the cairns are a group of Neolithic passage tombs dating back to 3000BC. The tombs are located on three different hills and Cairn T, one of the largest tombs is situated on Cairnbane East.
The tomb has a cruciform chamber, a corbelled roof and some beautiful examples of Neolithic art in Ireland. During the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox, people gather at dawn in Cairn T to watch sunlight enter the chamber which illuminates the inside of the tomb.
On Cairnbane West is Cairn L, another impressive tomb.
