URPoint Details
The villagers have a saying that ‘there are enough witches in Long Compton to draw a wagonload of hay up Long Compton Hill’. The cottages are stone and thatch and no sign of any strange or evil happenings nowadays.
The Church of St Peter and St Paul dates from the 13th century, and has an unusual lych-gate to the churchyard. The gateway is a two-storey thatched cottage with ground floor rooms removed.
Just south of the village is a large stone, 8ft tall and 4ft wide, which stands apart from a Neolithic or Bronze Age circle known as the Rollright Stones.
