URPoint Details

This interesting village stands on the River Colne and has several interesting old houses and inns.

All Saints Convent is an attractive late-Victorian building of red and purple brick and stone with a neo-Tudor front with a turret.

St Peter's church is slim with a cemented facade and is in the Norman Revival style dated 1825. The interior is without aisles and the columns of the west gallery have Norman capitals. The stained glass, representing the Ascension, is in a slightly Renaissance style.

To the east is Tyttenhanger, a large brick house built in the middle of the 17th century with brick quoins and window frames, a hipped roof and a squat cupola.

Bowmans Open Farm, Coursers Rd. Open daily from 9am to 5.30pm. Facilities for the disabled. An entertaining and interesting way to see life on a 1100 acre livestock and arable farm. There are 3 dairy herds with some 400 pedigree Friesian cows being milked from 2pm to 4pm. There are about 250 pig herds as well as sheep and poultry. Wheat, Barley and Brussels Sprouts are part of the arable crops. Stroll around the farm and feed the animals in the Pets Corner. Try some home-made Bowmans yoghurt and ice-cream, its really delicious.
