Across the vale from Levisham is the moorland village with spectacular views.
The 13th century church of St Andrew and St Giles has been restored over the years but still has its Jacobean pulpit, reading desk and communion table.
Over Lockton Moor to the north, past the gorge known as Hole of Horcum is the picturesque Saltersgate Smugglers Inn, where smuggling gin and silk was brought from Robin Hoods Bay.
