A dark and wild mountain rises to 3,786ft south of the Dee near Balmoral.
It may be climbed from Braemar (via Clunie Water and Ballater), from Ballater (via Loch Muick and Allt-na-Guibhsaich) or from Crathie. At the foot of its precipitous northeast face is little Loch-na-gar ‘Goat Loch’ from which it takes its name.
Lochnagar is a sizeable corrie-loch on the northern side of the famous mountain of the same name,A sizeable corrie-loch on the northern side of the famous mountain of the same name, Lochnagar lies between the summits of Cac Carn Beag and Meikle Pap. It gives rise to the Lochnagar Burn which flows north through the Balmoral Forest.
