URPoint Details
On an island in this lonely loch, stand the ruins of a 13th century castle, once a seat of the Comyns.
It was occupied in person by Edward I in 1303 and greatly strengthened.
In 1336 Edward III raised the siege in which the Countess of Atholl was beleaguered by the Regent Moray's troops.
In 1371 the castle became the stronghold of the Wolf of Badenoch, the vicious Earl of Buchan who terrorised the area.
The castle was then dismantled in 1456.
