Loch of Houlland - Eshaness

Eshaness , Scotland

URPoint Details

Supporting a recreational trout fishery, the Loch of Houlland is situated a half-mile(0.8 km) northeast of Esha Ness Lighthouse in the North mavine district of the North Mainland of Shetland.

The ruins of a broch lie on a promontory which extends into the loch, while an island is connected to the shore by a causeway.

The loch is retained by a small dam which controlled water reaching three traditional little corn mills, the remains of which can be seen next to the stream which drains to the northwest.
