The loch is famous for its association with Bonnie Prince Charlie.
The memorial cairn on the shore marks the spot from where Prince Charles Edward Stewart sailed for France on the 20 September 1746, after having wandered round the Highlands as a fugitive with a price of £30,000 on his head.
