URPoint Details
Situated on the border between Inverness, Ross and Cromarty to the south of the East and West Monar Forests.
The loch has a length of 8 miles (13km) and has been used as a reservoir since 1963. Its level is artificially raised by a dam at its eastern end. This is an example of an arch-dam, a type relatively rare in Britain.
The ruins of Strathmore Lodge lie beneath the water.
