Loch Loyne

URPoint Details

A reservoir occupying much of Glen Loyne between Glen Garry and Glen Cluanie. A dam at its eastern end provides a head of water as part of the Garry-Moriston Hydro-Electric Scheme, sending water north into another reservoir, Loch Cluanie, via a tunnel. The concrete gravity dams retaining both reservoirs were constructed using blast-furnace slag as a substitute for 70% of the cement which would otherwise have been required. This was the first time this technique was used in Britain. The River Loyne issues from the loch.
