URPoint Details
The famous and beautiful inland loch, known as the Queen of Scottish Lakes is noted for its fine fishing and is the largest in Great Britain.
It is 24 miles long and 5 miles wide at it widest point. Steamers call at the many beauty spots from Balloch to Ardlui.
In the 13th century Magnus, the Norse King of Man took his galleys across the Arrochar-Tarbet isthmus to make war on the Highland glens.
In later years the country of MacGregors, Colquhouns, MacFarlanes and other fighting clans was the scene of many gory battles, the worst being that at Glen Fruin in 1603 between the MacGregors and Colquhouns.
