URPoint Details
An inland lake nearly four miles long by two miles wide is famous not only for St Serfs Priory but also the excellent trout fishing and Castle Island where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 after her surrender at Carbery and it was here that she abdicated the throne in favour of her son. In 1568 she made her dramatic escape to Niddry Castle.
To the east of the loch rise the Lomond Hills, with Bishop Hill and West Lomond 1713ft.
To the south is Benarty Hill at 1167ft
