Despite the name being Welsh it means ‘village of flowers’, the village is fringed by steep, wooded hills and the River Tanat.
In the 19th century the Reverend John Parker was the vicar and he had the Church of St Michael rebuilt to his own design. To its original Norman character her added a curious cigar-shaped tower connected to the church by an arch with the inscription ‘From thunder and lightening, earthquake and flood, Good Lord deliver us’.
