Springs were discovered here in 1732 by the Revd Theophilus Evans, grandfather of the history of Brecknock. He suffered from chronic scurvy a condition almost as bad as leprosy. And after only two months of treatment, he was cured.
A pump room was established in the village and large comfortable hotels soon followed.
The banks of the lovely River Irfon make for great walks as do the surrounding hills of the Irfon Valley.
