St Catwg was supposedly the grandson of Brychan a semi legendary figure of Irish descent and is said to have ruled this part of Wales in the 5th century.
The mainly 16th century church still retains the old village stocks and whipping post.
On the north wall is a memorial to ‘Ann wife of Richard Lewis, who died on 21 February, 1773 aged 72, being a midwife, she was the Instrument in the hand of Providence to bring this world 716 children’.
