The church originally was called St Margaret’s now All Saints and dates from the 10th century. Standing in a prominent position it has commanding views of the surrounding countryside, the spires of five other churches can be seen on a clear day.
In 1900 the church spire was struck by lightning. On 2nd August 1906, the village suffered a most devastating storm when crops and vegetables were torn to shreds by giant hailstones. Over 400 window panes were broken and a field of onions was so badly damaged that the smell of onions hung over the village for days.
