Little Missenden HP7 0QY, England
URPoint Details
This Saxon Church of St John the Baptist has a fine 13th century wall painting of St Christopher, with fishes swimming round his feet, carrying Christ over a brook of a crucifix and of St Catherine's martyrdom on the wheel, blades from which slay the spectators of her death.
Roman brick is visible in the chancel arch and the crosses behind it are thought to have been made by swords of local gentry on their way to the Crusades. The 12th century' Aylesbury font' has stylised leaf decoration.
Timbers at the entrance to the 15th century porch are from a single oak, split and turned upside down.
