URPoint Details
The pub is over 200 years old and has a very interesting tale to tell.
It seems that in 1806 there was a fight between the men of the village and some Cameron Highlanders who were stationed nearby at Weeley. The men of the village chased the soldiers along the street and Alexander McDonald who, after hurting his foot, was struck down and died. Legend has it that he hit his head on the road and a hole appeared which resisted all efforts to fill it. The event is recorded on the soldier’s tombstone in the graveyard.
