Open April to end October, daily except Fridays (open Good Friday) 1-5.30pm. Admission charge; dogs on leads as far as Lower Battery only; no back packs in castle; front sling baby carriers available; NT shop in village.
Built in 1550 to protect Holy Island from attack, the castle was restored and converted into a private house by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1903. Small walled garden was designed by Gertrude Jekyll. 19th century lime kilns in fields by the castle.
