URPoint Details
St Leonard's Church, (Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust), is of exceptional interest with its great tower and spire of the 13th and 14th centuries. Of an earlier period is the chancel and east window.
The south chapel and the remarkable south porch are 14th century and very much decorated in style.
The nave and clerestory are Perpendicular and 15th century.
Particularly important is the 15th century stained glass Jesse Window in the north aisle. It has no equal in Cambridgeshire.
The churchyard has many fine memorials, one in particular which reads: A Modest Dutifull Child Lyeth Here who was Beloved of her Father Dear - he at her Death did weep & moan and that in her Stead himself had gone. But Now as holy David he doth say Since Pleased God call my Child Away - She Shall no more hither Return to me. I hope to meet in Joy Eternolly. On the side of the headstone it states Aged 72 yers, and on the side states Life The 5 of January 1718: no name is mentioned.
