A coastal place on the Water of Lendal and nearby is Carleton Castle with its tale of a bluebeard baron who killed seven wives by pushing them over the cliff but he met the same fate by wife number eight.
Situated on a fine stretch of coast with Bennane Head to the southwest and where the Lendal Water flows into the sea.
To the north on the coast road, one of the most picturesque is the delightful Kennedy’s Pass.
There is a memorial recalling the drowning of some Arran men in 1711.
