URPoint Details

A village to the northwest of the county is of great charm with black-and-white cottages, houses and shops of weathered brick and stone line the streets.

The name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon and means ‘homestead by the Leonte’, possibly an old name for the River Clun.

The Romans built two settlements here, one around Watling Street and the other where the village is today.

The Church of St Mary Magdalene with its 14th century 76ft high tower and 6ft thick walls with battlements is evidence of the village’s turbulent past.
