18th century houses and 17th century inns mingle together in this attractive town.
Close to the southwest ridge of the Peak National Park, the town is known locally as the Queen of the Moorlands.
During the 19th century, dyes and silk products were manufactured, and the old mills are still used but now produce synthetic fibres.
