URPoint Details
In high country at or above the 500 foot contour, the main part of Leckhampstead is west of the Newbury to Wantage road with the hamlet of Hill Green to the east.
Leckhampstead Street is the largest centre with modern housing mixing with the thatched cottages and on the village green, a curious war memorial partly made out of armaments from World War One.
The church was built in 1860, the architect being S S Teulon whose work has a quality very much of its own. Leckhampstead Thicket has modern housing development together with older houses and farms.
To the south, towards Welford, is Ploughley Farm which includes part of the 13th century St Margaret's Priory, an establishment of the Austin Friars.
