URPoint Details
A popular ski resort and is one of the highest villages in Scotland at 1350ft above sea level. The name comes from the lead mined here in the Lowther Hills between the 13th and 14th centuries. Some gold was also found here. A stone in the churchyard is really quite rare to John Taylor who died aged 137 (no typing error). To the southeast rise the Lowther Hills of which Green Lowther stands at 2,403ft and Lowther Hill at 2,377ft.
