Layer Marney Tower, Gardens and Home Farm

The Farm shop is open Sunday to Friday in Summer 2 to 6pm. Winter October to March Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

The Tudor Gatehouse is one of the most impressive and tallest in England.
Sir Henry Marney when he was knighted started to build a home befitting his new status. He died in 1523 shortly after inheriting his title. His son died some two years later and only the gatehouse and west wing were ever completed. The red brick gatehouse is majestic with magnificent towers linked by a two storeyed archway with one large window on each floor.
Climb the Tower, explore the outbuildings and visit the rare breed farm animal housed in the medieval barn.

The red brick church of St Mary dated 1524 is privately owned and is open on Summer Sunday afternoons or by appointment. The interior has a very interesting 15th or 16th century wall painting of St.Christopher also delightful stained glass windows and brasses of the Marney family.
