URPoint Details
Leire, thought to be the origin of the Layer Brook mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The name de la Haye (of Norman origin), was first recorded in the Charter of the Benedictine Abbey of St John in Colchester dated 1128. The main road may have been one of the routes the Roman soldiers took to reach the river Blackwater which can be seen from the church, and the North Sea is only five miles away as the seagull flies.
