The largest waterwheel in the world measures 72½ft across and is capable of raising 250 gallons of water a minute more than 1000ft, was designed to pump water from the mines of the great Laxey Mining Company, the wheel has a diameter of 22 metres, and remains the largest working watermill in the world.
The wheel dates from 1854 and is named after the wife of the island’s Lieutenant Governor, 'Lady Isabella'.
