Formal and shrub gardens are of interest and beautiful in all seasons. 30 acres of gardens surround the 19th century house. Formal gardens to the front of the house also date from the 19th century and feature geometrically shaped beds of roses interspersed with clipped yews. The terraces feature beds of annual edged by box. There is an unusual herbaceous border within a boundary of yew which has a flowering season from April to October. Beyond the parapet of the walled garden lies a more formal area on the steep slopes rising above the house. This includes some Himalayan magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and a stream edge
