URPoint Details
The small village means 'long lea or pasture' and has two distinct parts of Upper and Lower Greens. Upper Green is high and breezy, almost the highest point in Essex, nearly 500ft above sea level. Lower Green is more sheltered along the valley of the River Stort, here only a small stream.
The church although small is beautiful with a Norman porch, Norman and 14th century windows. The 15th century hammerbeam roof and brick built chancel has the Stuart coat of arms in the east window.
Next to the church is the manor house Langley Hall which has been here since medieval times.
