URPoint Details
Sited down in the town, the Church of St John the Evangelist (Churches Conservation Trust), built of stone in 1754-5 as a chapel-of-ease to the Priory Church on the hill by the castle. It is a fine 18th century urban church with five bays, each with a round headed window, and a short chancel with an apse. Many of the original fittings remain, including the galleries over the aisles and the box-pews in the nave.
