A fine example of a luxurious medieval country house, Lamphey Palace was the favourite rural retreat of the bishops of St Davids.
Set in the lush Pembrokeshire countryside, its tranquil remains demonstrate building developments over two hundred years as successive bishops added to its comfort and dignity.
Bishop Carew added a grandly-proportioned banqueting hall in the late 13th century, and the famous 14th century Bishop Gower built yet another, while Tudor bishops contributed the chapel with its splendid traceried window.
