Parsonage Lane, Lambourn RG17 8PA, England
URPoint Details
With such a history it is not surprising, to find that Lambourn has one of the very finest medieval churches in Berkshire. St Michael's church is sometimes called "the cathedral of the Downs", a spacious late Norman building of cruciform design and a prominent crossing tower with battlements and pinnacles.
Later centuries saw numerous additions to the church which can now show work of Norman, Decorated and Perpendicular periods. Treasures within this fine building include the old village stocks in the north chapel, a small profile relief sculpture of Charles the First, many effigies and monuments and some l6th century stained glass.
