A resort and market village at the east end of Loch Shiel in beautiful and wild countryside.
About 3 miles south, among pretty woods are the spectacular waterfalls of the River Shin On the west side of the river is an Iron Age stone circle.
On Loch Merkland one of a chain of lochs whose shores are crossed by the road from Lairg to the wild northwest of Scotland, near Loch Laxford
To the north rises Ben Hee at 2,864ft in the great Reay deer forest and to the west is Ben Leoid at 2,597ft.
