Laggan Locks - Fort William

Laggan Locks - Fort William

Fort William , Scotland

URPoint Details

These locks lie on the Caledonian Canal at the northern end of Loch Lochy with Drum Alban cutting across the Great Glen or Glen More, forming an important watershed at 115ft.

Rivers to the west flow into the Atlantic and those to the east enter the North Sea.

To the southwest is Kilfinnan sitting on the north bank of Loch Lochy, the mausoleum is the burial ground of the Glengarry chiefs

A loch to the east of Glen Spean extends 7 miles (12 km) southwest from Kinloch Laggan. Loch Laggan serves a reservoir forming part of the Lochaber hydro-electric power scheme which powers the aluminium smelter at Fort William. The Laggan Dam was built at the western end of Loch Moy, also known as the Laggan Reservoir and sometimes considered an extension of Loch Laggan.
