This 1467 tower house is typical of the 250 medieval castles which dot County Clare. 42 of them were built by the MacNamara clan which ruled Clare for over 1000 years.
In the 16th century it was seized by the O’Briens and was later used by Cromwell’s troops.
Castlellated additions were made in the 19th century.
