The Church of St Mary the Virgin has been praised by many including Ruskin who wrote about it, Turner painted it and from here you can take in the River Lune, Howgill and Casterton Falls. Much remains of the original Norman church with massive pillars in the north arcade alternating with piers and clustered shafts. There is a six-sided pulpit and many lovely monuments.
