Kinver

Kinver , England

URPoint Details

Wool, and later iron screws and nails were the industries on which Kinver was built.

The village lies between the sandstone bluff of Kinver Edge and the double waterways of the River Stour and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.

Most of the red-brick cottages in the long and winding High Street were built to houses the early-19th century nail workers.

The Church of St Peter dates mostly from the 14th century and incorporates the remains of an earlier, Norman church.
On the north side of the chancel is a lovely 15th century chapel, built by the Hamptons, lords of Stourton Castle.
Among the many monuments is an early 16th century altar tomb commemorating Sir Edward Grey of nearby Enville, his two wives, three sons and ten daughters.
