An old royal burgh sitting by the River Don with a quaint town hall and the old church retains one of the oldest Sacrament Houses a feature peculiar to this part of Scotland.
There are some prehistoric remains including hill forts and stone circles.
The ruins of Hallforest Castle located 1½ miles away is reputed to been a hunting tower of Robert the Bruce.
