At the head of Loch Maree which is dominated by Slioch 'The Spear' 3217ft. To the southeast Glen Docherty leads to the isolated hamlet of Achnasheen, 10 miles away, between Glen Carron and Strath Bran. West of the village stretches the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve, founded in 1951 and covers more than ten thousand acres and preserves a large ancient Caledonian pine forest.
