URPoint Details
An ancient town that was prosperous in Anglo-Saxon times, and probably before that in Roman days.
The river has been bridged at Kingston since medieval times and the present stone bridge dates from 1825.
The parish church was completely reconstructed in the 18th century in the Perpendicular style but retains some of its original monuments.
Seven Saxon kings were crowned at the Coronation Stone before 1066.
