King's Lynn - Houghton Hall

A large Palladian hall built in the 1720's for Robert Walpole the first Prime Minister of England. There have been Walpole's in the village since the 12th century. The present owner is the sixth Marquess Hugh, Lord Great Chamberlain to the Queen.
The widow of the fifth Marquess had the steps on the west front reconstructed to their original design in 1973 as a memorial to her husband.
