Before the town became a Royal property was called Bishop’s Lynn and is now more commonly known as just Lynn.
Clifton House was a 14th century merchant’s house and has a little garden courtyard and now belongs to the council. The 16th century brick watch tower is open to the public.
Hampton Court in Nelson St was a medieval merchant's house and warehouse.
George Vancouver who surveyed the Pacific Coast of America was born here in 1792.
Fanny Burney was born here in 1752 and wrote Evelina in 1778. She died in 1840.
