The castle took almost twelve years to complete from 1200 and has an interesting interpretation of Royal authority, administration and defence throughout the centuries was built for John, son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquatint, King of England, Lord of Ireland, Duke of Normandy, Duke of Aquitane, Count of Anjou and Touraine.
