The present church was built by Thomas Burns in 1841 and had a re-modelled interior in 1899.
On the site of a 7th century Celtic monastery, and the tower of a Collegiate church, there are some fine stained glass, a water powered organ and in the graveyard are some fine 18th century carved stones.
There is a mausoleum of the Dukes of Argyll, a Douglas vault, and the grave of Elizabeth Blackwell, the first lady doctor.
