URPoint Details
An ancient burgh since 1591 and an important industrial town, with some fine buildings of interest including Burns Monument in Kay Park in the shape of a classical temple with an 80ft tower. The town has been a haven for some very famous men, amongst them was John Walker, who perfected a blend of whisky in 1820. Robert Burn's first collection of poems was published here in 1786. A building of interest is Tam Samson's house, where Robert Burns wrote Tam's epitaph.
