URPoint Details
The Domesday Book records that in the reign of William the Conqueror, the village had to pay the lord of the manor 22,000 herrings. There were fishermen here in those days as well as in medieval times when Kessingland was a thriving port. The port slowly decayed and was later used as a smuggling haunt.
The church of St Edmund's with its 96ft tower is a landmark. The church was supported by the nuns of St Clare until the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
