Kendal Castle on Castle Hill is open any time The 12th century ruined Norman castle was the birthplace of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII. It stands on a green hill where its overgrown moat and weathered battlements make an impressive sight. Her prayer book, bound in silver, is on display in the town hall.
