The quarry supplies most of the light grey granite many of the Aberdeenshire famous buildings including the Aberdeen Town Hall, the piers of the Forth and Tay Bridges and the Thames Embankment in London.
Down by the river is the cave where Bruce spent the night before the Battle of Barra.
South off the Monymusk road is Castle Fraser, a fine example of Scottish baronial dating from 1454 to 1618 and most notable are the turrets.
